While visiting a friend in Columbia, Maryland, I
happened upon a wine store in the local store complex and
decided to see what they had. In addition to a Masi white
wine that I hadn't seen before, I happened upon a bottle of
Red Electra from Quady Winery in California. Now, I have
been a fan of Quady Electra and Essencia (both Orange
Muscats) for some time now, and so I had to pick up this
one.
I chose to open the bottle and try it with George, the
business partner of Al Paris, and the sommelier at Mantra, a
wonderful little restaurant in Philly that serves a
Southeast Asian cuisine.
The wine itself has a nice berry taste, and has that
great sweet and zesty tasty that are the characteristics of
their wines. It's just a one percent more alcoholic than
the regular Electra, and it shines in its own light.
For those of you that haven't been introduced into
dessert wines yet, especially Muscat, this is a great
introduction, and would go great with any party. It
actually reminds me of the wonderful jerk chicken salad
that I would get from Benjamin's in downtown Wilmington,
DE, when I worked at DuPont; their raspberry dressing is to
die for.
